Which Carp Marker Should You Choose?
Carp markers are nothing else but tools that allow for marking the spot where bait is introduced into the water. They enable consistent positioning and fishing exactly where the bait is located, which translates to significantly better results during fishing sessions.
Markers can be divided into 3 categories: casting markers, H-block markers, and pole markers.
Casting Markers
These are used for marking spots with a rod, but can also be used for measuring depth. They are made from a variety of materials that impact their buoyancy and casting distance. However, the most important feature is that they have a highly visible, bright tip that can be seen from 100 meters or more.
ATTENTION: If a casting marker is to remain in the water throughout the entire fishing session, it is crucial to ensure that the line is well submerged so that it lays flat on the bottom and fish are not able to get entangled with it during the fight, potentially causing a tangle with the terminal tackle.
Below are examples of recommended casting markers:
H-block Markers
These are string markers used for marking spots with a boat. Such markers are extremely useful during sounding as they allow you to mark several potential spots and choose the best one at the end. They are also handy for marking spots along the shoreline, as they help to determine the direction to navigate and bait. However, it is advisable to lay the rig at a considerable distance from these markers to prevent fish from getting tangled. These markers are also valued by those who set rigs and bait on steep slopes where a pole marker might simply slide down and sink. Since these markers extend from a weight on the bottom to a composite H-shaped top on the surface, they are not entirely safe. This means that using this type of markers on open water involves the risk of fish entanglement during the fight, which could lead to break-offs.

Pole Markers
Pole markers are by far the best way of marking fishing spots when using bait boats. Their design ensures that fish are unable to tangle with them during the fight, which means the marker remains stationary – your spot is not lost, and the fight is 100% safe. Pole markers are the most refined and improved – equipped with reflective tapes that can be illuminated with a head torch and located from great distances at night. More advanced models also feature special glowing heads with dusk sensors or heads that can be lit with a remote from several hundred meters away.

Depending on the fishing location and technique, the right marker should be chosen, but without a doubt, pole markers are the safest.
