Zig Bugs are floating carp flies. The Action Bugs variant features thin appendages that further entice fish through movement, as any water disturbance near the bait causes the bug's legs to move, provoking carp to bite. In situations where fish are not feeding off the bottom but are moving in the water column or picking up baits from the surface, instead of sitting idly and waiting for a miracle, let's try a different approach and present the bait where the fish are. Fishing in the water column with a Zig Rig setup is a far more active form of carp fishing than simply waiting for a bite. After casting the rig, we leave it in place for 20-30 minutes; if nothing happens, we change the bait's swimming depth, switch the bait, or recast the rig. With Zig Rig fishing, the rule is: if nothing happens - take action! Zig Bugs can be additionally flavored, but from my experience, it's not necessary. These flies (Zig Bugs) mimic the insects that fish naturally feed on. Zig Bugs are tied on eyed hooks.
