Free Spirit Carp Rods
Carp rods - colloquially known as "carp rods," exhibit specific characteristics and construction. They are most commonly made from carbon fiber with a particular arrangement of guides and a split handle that facilitates a firm grip during casting.
Length of rods - carp rods are typically made in three lengths given in English feet: 10' (3 m), 12' (3.6m), and 13' (3.9m). Shorter versions are intended for boat fishing, medium ones are the most common and versatile, while long rods are mainly designed for extremely long-distance casting.
Flexibility of rods - also known as the test curve, is most often rated on a scale from 2-3.5 lb, that is: 2.0; 2.75; 3.0; 3.25, and 3.5 lb. The higher the lb rating, the stiffer the rod allowing for casting the setup further. The lower the lb rating, the more flexible the rod, providing more pleasure during the fight. High-quality rods can combine both attributes and achieve excellent casting parameters while maintaining the enjoyment of the fight.
The most popular and versatile rods are 12' (3.60m) in length with a test curve of 3.0 lb.
