Carp Mats
Carp mats are special pads designed for the safe unhooking and treatment of caught fish. They are most often made from soft sponge, material filled with polystyrene, or material suspended on a frame (known as carp cradles). Mats are used to ensure that the caught fish do not sustain injuries while on the bank and to release the fish in the best possible condition! Carp Mats are increasingly also used by anglers who catch and release pike, zander, and other fish!
Types of mats used in carp fishing
"Cradle" carp mat - this type of mat is the newest on the market, but due to the high safety it provides for the fish, it has gained immense popularity among carp anglers. The cradle completely separates the fish from the ground, as it lifts the fish's body above the ground. A good frame-based mat also has special covers to protect the fish from the sun and its uncontrolled movements.
Inflatable carp mat - this mat is filled with air. The inflatable mat has the advantage over standard carp mats that, apart from excellently isolating the fish from the ground, it is significantly more compact during transport and also lighter.
Carp mat with filling - the most common type of mat by the water. This type of mat typically has a filling made of foam or polystyrene granules. This type of mat often has special side walls, which provide additional protection for the fish being retained on the bank.
